My research focuses primarily on the application of analytical methods to environmental studies. Some of my student shave been involve evaluating water quality (primarily nutrient and heavy metal concentrations) in projects sponsored by the US Environmental Protection Agency, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and other agencies. I have also worked with students assessing environmental heavy metal contamination. This type of work exposes students not only to a variety of analytical techniques, but also to the quality assurance/quality control measures that an essential part of real world analyses. I am also frequently involved in collaborations with faculty from other departments, including Biology, Agriculture, and Geography, Geology, and Planning.
