Four-Year Degree Plans: Bachelor of Science (BS), Chemistry
You can typically complete the bachelor’s degree in chemistry in four years (eight semesters).
You can finish sooner if you have dual credit or transfer credit. Check with your advisor.
Four-year plans: Which degree type is best for you?
As a chemistry major, you’ll choose to complete a comprehensive or non-comprehensive degree.
The comprehensive chemistry degree also:
- Allows you to select an option area (chemistry or biochemistry) based on your future goals.
- Qualifies you for ACS certification.
Have a deeper focus on chemistry. Choose from two option areas: chemistry or biochemistry.
Pair chemistry with something else. A great choice if you want to pursue a minor or second major.
Planning for your pre-professional journey
Have bigger goals in mind? A chemistry major is a great choice if you’re a pre-professional student (pre-med, pre-health, pre-pharmacy, etc.).
Medical and other professional schools do not require a specific major. Within the chemistry major, your advisor can help you plan the right coursework to help you pursue the path you want.
